If you make your way to Lisbon, try and find your way to Cascais. A local friend once told me it is the Malibu of Portugal. I’ve never been to Malibu. But I like this little town.
This is Cascais:
Walk around a bit, maybe have dinner here.
This is what some of the locals do:
If you make your way to Cascais, you should make your way to Bar do Guincho.
If you rent a car it’s easy. Just land, get in the car*, and drive to Bar do Guincho. Lisbon will be there later. If you don’t rent a car just land and get on the train. From Cascais you can get a bus, taxi, or even bike share. All very easy. If you are game, and traveling light, grab a bike. The ride along the ocean is incredible. But it’s not short, but incredible. If you decide to take the coastal road (either by bike or car) this is a bit of what you will see (in April).
You see this little gem is located on a very large (huge for Portugal, and large by any standard) white sand beach sandwiched between cliffs.
This is a very popular spot for surfing, wind surfing and kiteboarding. For me it’s a place to sit, relax, listen to the ocean, talk to a friend, think, or whatever. Just find a bit of happiness. No shoes, just happiness.
We spend most of our time trying to see as much as we can. From sunup to sundown. One shot to the next. On the next trip to PT I might find myself sitting on this beach for a bit longer so long as my friends at Bar do Guincho are open to keep me company. I think Freddy would like this place.

*Protip: If you are landing on a big plane full of a bunch of tourists that might rent a car you might stand in line for 30+ minutes. If you are a hertz gold member (do that) you can skip all of that and go straight to your car. Worth it.
